Frequently asked questions

Below are the questions we are asked most often. Is your question not listed? Fill in the intake form or get in touch with us.

What is organifying?

Organifying is transforming a garden — or a way of thinking — from rigid and controlled to flowing, natural and full of life. Not rigid lines but intuitive shapes, and not repetition for its own sake but rhythm taken from nature. From uniform to movement, from flat to layered, from repetition to variety. Read more about it on organifying.

What kind of gardens do you design?

From compact city gardens to country estates. Our projects include a park garden with sightlines, a 1930s terraced-house garden, a wooded villa garden with changes in level, a classic city garden with a water table and a mid-century terrace. Front gardens, side gardens, roof terraces and balconies are part of it too.

Do you also design exclusive and luxury gardens?

Yes. We design exclusive gardens for villas, country houses and large plots across the Netherlands. With sightlines, a natural swimming pool or swimming pond, lighting and layered planting, as one whole with the architecture. Read more about luxury garden design.

What does the process look like?

We guide the entire process, from the first idea to a garden that breathes. It starts with an intake conversation in which we go through your wishes, the surroundings and your lifestyle. This is followed by a clear 2D plan in which the garden is built up in layers, with attention to layout, routing and planting. We present the design to you personally — on site or online.

How long before I have a design?

That depends on the size of the garden and how complete the photos and video you provide are. At the intake we agree on a concrete schedule, so you know where you stand before we begin.

What do I need for the intake conversation?

Useful to have at hand: the full address of the garden, whether it is an existing garden or a new build, which areas you would like designed, and your household situation. Do you have a site plan with dimensions or photos of the current situation? Great, but not required — you can also send them later. Everything is listed in the intake form.

Do I also get a planting plan?

Yes, a planting plan can be part of the assignment. Planting is one of the pillars of the design: it determines layering, contrast and how the garden changes through the seasons. Exactly what your assignment includes is agreed at the intake.

Can I build the garden myself?

Yes. Some clients carry out the design themselves, using the plan and practical tips as a guide. If you would rather have it built, we are happy to advise on the approach.

Can the process be in English?

Yes. Both the intake conversation and the design presentation can be in English.

Can the design be presented online?

Yes. The design can be presented online, for example via a video call, so you can go through it at your own pace without having to travel.

Why are there no names or addresses with the projects?

To protect our clients’ privacy, we do not mention names or exact locations.
